Colon cancer returned while on folfox

Posted by hope1212 @hope1212, 1 day ago

Hi all. Wondering if anyone has experienced something similar. My husband was diagnosed with colon cancer in June. He had a right hemicolectomy removed all 18 lymph nodes, did not spread ,lymph nodes came back not cancerous. One month after surgery experienced pain in stomach, nobody listened. Began folfox chemotherapy 6 weeks post op. Did three rounds of treatment every other week. Finally after 7 weeks our doctor did a ct which now shows cancer throughout the abdomen wall and pelvic. Surgery is now not an option. Doctor suggest another chemotherapy but changing the treatment. I’m so devastated and desperate for help and answers.

I’m so sorry for your pain and suffering, it’s truly awful not only for your husband but also for you. I know that you’re feeling lost and after going through treatment for colon cancer and feeling a little bit of control over it only to find out that it’s spread to his abdomen and pelvic area. I don’t think that it’s possible to ever feel like you’re in the clear with cancer, I know that I don’t but we do whatever we can to stay safe from it, life changes a lot for sure but we adapt somehow and move forward. They are now treating the cancer with new drugs that will kill the disease and stop it from spreading, it’s a good thing that they are doing this right away because it’s a recent issue so that’s good, I also think that even if they found the cancer any earlier it would still have to wait for the first cancer to be under control, I’m not sure but I don’t think they can treat the two places at the same time, perhaps only if it’s the same cancer. I know it’s all so confusing but somewhere along the way you slowly start to get your life back together and move forward to enjoy the new life together, praying is very helpful and talking to God to ask for help is very good because as PML always says to us that God made us so he can fix us too, best wishes to you and your husband.
