Climbing Stairs

Is climbing stairs (10+ flights) exercise good or bad? Does it have adverse effect on knees and overall health? Kindly suggest.

Hello RAliasParas, and welcome to Connect.

I think this particular question depends on a lot of variables. According to mayoclinic.org (http://mayocl.in/2dqdYcu), mixing in the stairs instead of the elevator can do great things for your health.

As with any exercise program, you should consult your physician. But it may be helpful for other members if you would be willing to share a bit more about yourself. How is your overall health currently? Do you have cardiovascular restraints or issues (blood pressure, heart, etc.) Do you have existing knee problems? What is your current level of activity?

I did not write the original question; however, I currently have bone on bone in my right knee and am getting euflexa injections in both knees. This summer I have been in a 3 story house and have had to walk up and down steps a great deal. My knee pain has increased significantly. Although the condition in my left knee is not as severe as the right, the left knee has always had significantly more pain. After using the stairs all summer, the pain in the right knee is worse than the left. Was the exercise derived from doing stairs worth the effort?
