Chronic dyspepsia
Hi, 54-year-old man here. About 16 months ago I developed severe indigestion, nausea, and a burning sensation in my upper GI. After several days of this, I went to the ED. I did an abdominal CT scan with contrast, and they said it could be diverticulitis, but I also found out I have hepatic steatosis. Nothing else. I have on/off GERD for years, but it was controlled with omeprazole in the past and I only took it when I had a flare up. I went back to the ED 2 weeks later and did another CT and that was completely normal. I also completed an EGD which was normal. Had a chest CT scan which showed some very small lung nodules and a mildly atrophy of pancreas without duct dilation. I had an abdominal ultrasound which also showed the hepatic steatosis but everything else was normal. All my labs are normal too including lipase and stool cultures.
I continue to have chronic dyspepsia, burning sensation in my upper GI, more so on my left side, bloating, gas, belching, abdominal tenderness, and just sick feeling most of the time.
I have changed my diet, although I still eat some bad things from time to time like sweets and coffee but for the most part, I have cut back on anything that could make this worse- fried foods, overeating, carbonated drinks, alcohol.
I'm very frustrated and can't figure out what I should do next. It's certainly a crummy way to live.

Hi Craigjulian,
I know this is going to sound backwards, but go in and look up Healthy Gut LLC. You didn't say anything about your digestion, but I am assuming with the issues you are having food isn't digesting. Go read what this gastroenterologist who created these products is saying because it is the OPPOSITE OF WHAT WE HAVE BEEN TOLD. I took products to cut acid when I had the issues you are talking about, and what I needed to do was increase the acid that has been put to sleep so the food isn't digesting and causes leaky gut syndrome, burping, bloating, feeling miserable and a host of other digestion woes. Just go read up on the products and especially read the comments made by others. Read your ingredients, because the one everyone swears by, the Tributryn (don't know if I spelled that right) has sugar alcohols in it, and for what reason is beyond me when you don't have to make anything in a capsule taste better. I can't go near anything with sugar alcohols in them and if you are, you might want to read up on them too. They are sticking them in a lot of our electrolyte balancing drinks today, as well as anything else that says ZERO sugar. Read the information and make up your own mind if this is you and then look at their products and you can even try to find other products with similar ingredients that is cheaper, because these are not cheap. I took Tagamet and Pepcid forever and when I switched to HCL Guard, from Healthy Gut, the difference is day and night. I only take one with my main meal of the day, and I don't take it at all if I am eating light, as it will produce too much acid on an empty stomach.
