Chronic calf and knee pain for years
Hello, I am a 24-year-old man who is generally fit. 3 years ago, I began feeling an aching pain deep inside my right leg calf, and also began experiencing what feels a sharp joint pain at my right knee. The calf pain and knee pain seem to occur never at the same time. When the calf pain occurs, I feel the need to massage it hard and stretch out the leg but these things relieve the pain about 20%. I've had days after doing many knee/leg exercises such as squats, lunges, calf raises etc where the pain is less than usual, but that only lasts for a day or 2. After years of exercising it and trying physio, massage therapy, and some wet and dry cupping, the pain is still present in both the calf and knee. At the knee, when I stretch my leg, it cracks a lot. I also feel when I rub the knee with my hand that it is less "solid", then the left, as if there is cartilage or some part of it which moves more than the left one. Compared to my left leg, the right leg seems weaker but not due to lack of strength training, as I've done that extensively now for a while. I recently did an X-ray and Ultrasound which don't show any issues. I'm trying to get an MRI next. In the past 4 months, I began feeling this odd burning sensation at the top of my right thigh, which is the same leg that feels the calf and knee pain. That burning sensation has subsided but I can still feel it if I apply pressure to that area. The main pains I'm trying to resolve are the knee and calf pains as they hurt and become especially painful after sitting for a while, which I do as part of my job.
After trying exercises, physio, massage therapy/oiling, and cupping, I'm looking for any potential solutions to this and a diagnosis as I'm yet to understand, alongside my doctors, what exactly the issue is. Thank you so much for any help you offer.
