Checking In For TKS
When I have knee replacement surgery, I will check in along with my wife. After I’m done with the surgery, I'm assuming I will be moved to my room for a one-night stay. Does my wife have to wait in the hospital for me to get out of surgery? Can she go home once I go into surgery?, and can they call her when I’m out? We have some sick dogs that she needs to care for. Thanks!

I'm in the US. Will hospitals allow you to take yor pnone in with you - If my wife is not there?
Best to ask the doc or his surgical what the protocol is.

1 ReactionThe surgery will last from 2 1/2 to 4 hours, including recovery. I would she wouldn't have to be there. Most people choose to be there. She also doesn't have to be there at check in I guess. But I would check and see what the protocol at the hospital is. Each one is different. Good luck!

1 ReactionMy husband left for an hour or two for errands during all my surgeries. He left a phone number with the nurses so they could call or text him when the surgery was done. He was back in time to talk to my surgeon before I even woke up. As long as they have a contact number and know you will be back, I don't see a problem.

I've never had a problem with bringing a cell phone into a hospital, no one has checked to see if anyone has a phone. Sometimes there are signs to not use your cell phone in certain areas, usually exam rooms so that calls don't interrupt your doctor's visit.
