Change in BP and iron post op resection

I have had two bowel ruptures w peritonitis, two ostomies (colostomy and ileostomy), and two reversals in less than 2 years.Five in all. It's been 2.5 months since my last surgery which was an ileostomy reversal. My blood pressure is now normal and I could go off of my meds after years of taking it. But I get fatigued easily; become tachycardic very quickly; sudden onsets of lightheadedness; and appear to be slightly anemic. Is this relatively normal until I have more months of healing? I've been very sedentary for the past two years trying to recover so I'm thinking I just have to get stronger again.

I also had changes in BP after ileostomy reversal. I would get extremely lighted so dose was cut in half. I still take a low dose but get lighted if I get up too quickly. You have certainly had a tough go with problems. My last surgery the surgeon left my incision open to prevent scar tissue. I lugged around a 15 lb wound vac for 7 months. It healed but I have a huge valley in the middle of my abdomen with belly button an inch to the left.

I stopped my BP meds completely although it DOES go up sometimes when I get a rapid heart rate ie. bending and squatting to do light gardening. Now I'm going through cardiac testing. I feel like my whole body has changed after the ileostomy. I lost weight above my waist which hasn't occurred since my 40s before hysterectomy. I'm 66. I needed to lose pounds but I was losing way too fast during ileostomy. My food was zipping through. I think my body is just trying to catch up.

Hello @patsz and welcome to Mayo Connect. I'm sorry to hear of the weight loss and other health issues that you have had post ileostomy. Recovering from surgery has been quite a journey for you and I'm glad that you found this forum. It is a great place to share your experiences with others. I found Connect prior to my third surgery for a rare form of cancer in the upper digestive tract.

As you have mentioned a number of cardiac symptoms, I am glad to hear that you are going through cardiac testing. When will the testing be completed?

I'd like to hear from you as you continue this process. Will you continue to post as you seek answers?
