CEA rise after chemo

Posted by asmera1976 @asmera1976, Oct 7 12:38pm

Finished six rounds of FU-5 and leucovorin for stage 2 colorectal cancer in July. My colonoscopy and endoscopy were clear as well as my pet scan last month(September) however, my CEA test results rose from 6.4 in July to 8.1 today. I am worried about the rise and want to see if anyone has experienced this
Thank you and have a blessed day

This topic has been discussed many times.... Generally speaking any CEA that is less than 20 would not be cause for alarm. The healing process as part of chemo can easily generate enough inflammation to raise the CEA levels to 8. My advice is to relax

Can you get a Signatera test ?…while not perfect, they are more reliable than CEA, which can spike from allergies or arthritis flare-ups…another I heard of is cDNA…. good luck !

If you have Signatera test, be sure to go on the company website Natera, and get yourself on the patient portal. Once you have signed up you can request that they notify you directly via the portal at the same time they notify your doctor. And that way you won't have to wait for your doctor to communicate the results. In addition depending on the results you can schedule a 30 minute free consultation with the company to discuss this genetic testing. Good luck

Thank you so much.

I have read that sometimes CEA will rise due to other reasons besides cancer. Mine went up after 7th chemo but went down after 8th. I hope this is the case for you.
