2 ReactionsGreat that you are taking action. Most men just don’t do it. Thats a lot of the battle. As soon as they do your EUS they might go back in and do an ERCP along with some ultra sound work up and a ct scan. I had all of them done within a 5 week period then was promptly advanced to a total pancreatic removal. I was alarmed and had no clue where this all was going. When my operation was scheduled last September I and my wife both thought I was only losing half of my pancreas but mid surgery while I was under anesthesia, the surgeon discussed with my wife the merits of taking the whole pancreas out along with 5-6 other organs nearby and below the pancreas. She s agreed that this sounded like the best option so it was game on at that point. I have to say, that as of today, I feel great, my neuropathy seems to be waning after 8 rounds of chemo and I’m more than comfortable the overnight change to becoming a type 3c diabetic. I got approved by Medicare last December to go on a Medtronic insulin pump and I must say that after two months of delivering insulin by pen, it’s a game changer!
I lead an active life at this point albeit I’m a 70 YO guy. I hope you are in good health and possibly a non smoker so you can qualify for the most aggressive course of action that the surgeon can provide.
Wishing you the best my friend!

3 ReactionsCongrats! Does the insulin pump ever cause problems for you? Is it ever wrong like delivers too much insulin when you don't actually need it?
You have a wonderful attitude and glad to hear you are doing well.
The pump delivers very accurately provided you put in an estimated carb content on most everything you eat. I wasn’t advised until about 5 months after I got the unit that I need to put my carbs in 7-8 minutes before eating. I was putting them in when I sat down to eat or sometimes after I ate. So, with that said, yes, it is very accurate given the inputs. Sometimes in the over night hours it will present an auto correction based on a high glucogen number. Very helpful as it is administered at a level geared towards getting me back to something closer to the 112 blood sugar level we all seek.
If you get the opportunity to go on a Medtronic pump, go for it. Your life will be much the better. I refill the insulin about weekly and change the arm sensor and delivery set on my stomach weekly also. Not much of a hassle once you have the basics down.
Stay positive and get as much feedback you can from us that have already traveled this road. I wish I knew there was this particular chat line before as well as after I had my surgery. I’m doing remarkably well these days and living a good life again!
Hope the best for you too!
