Brachial Plexus Injury - Intense Neuropathic Pain
Hello, I am writing on behalf of my boyfriend, he has had a brachial plexus injury for 4 years, I would like to know if you consider that the intense neuropathic pain that he presents is a sign of nerve regeneration?
I would also like to know what could be some methods to alleviate these pains that are not medications

Hello @zcastillo, Welcome to Connect. I have no medical background or training but it seems like from what I've read that the intense neuropathic pain might be the symptoms of the injury. Here's more information.
"Brachial plexus neuropathy (BPN) occurs when nerves in your upper shoulder area become damaged. This can cause severe pain in your shoulders or arms. BPN may also limit movement and cause decreased sensation in these areas." -- Brachial Plexus Neuropathy: Causes, Risk Factors, and ...: https://www.healthline.com/health/brachial-plexopathy

Has your boyfriend seen a doctor or had any physical therapy treatments for the injury?
Antone suffering from Brachial Plexus injury or axillary nerve neuropathy.
I had shoulder surgery in November 2022 and ended up with a Brachial plexus injury along with axillary nerve neuropathy. Since then I have constant pain in my arm. I have seen so many doctors, but they haven't come up with a solution yet. Scheduled to see more doctors later this month. Does anyone have any advise for me?
Hello @bionicwoman. You will notice that I have found another discussion on this topic and have moved your post here since you mentioned neuropathy:

I wanted to share more about brachial plexus injury care at Mayo Clinic, in case it is useful to you ahead of your scheduled appointments: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/brachial-plexus-injury/care-at-mayo-clinic/mac-20350243
Are you seeing specialists?
I had a cubital tunnel injection done yesterday after my hand specialist recommended I try it for my pain and symptoms. I go to a pain specialist, my orthopedic surgeon, and will be seeing a peripheral nerve specialist at the end of the month.
I have a slightly different brachial plexus injury (radiation induced). The non-medication interventions I have done include high dose Vitamin B12 (and the neurologist said to *avoid* B6), Occupational Therapy, Physical therapy, and 40 rounds in a hyperbaric chamber. I also had a lot of other medicines, basically the kitchen sink approach because my neuropathy is such a rare side effect of my treatment. My radiologist at UCLA really has to fight to get me into hyperbaric, but that really slowed the rapid degeneration I was experiencing. I have no idea if your boyfriend can get into a hyperbaric chamber - the one I used at UCLA was all cancer patients with radiation damage, serious burn victims/amputees, and people with wounds who were going gangrene and the like, but if a doctor can fight for it, it may be possible. Or there are private clinics.
Those were my non-medical interventions. Good luck to your boyfriend.
Wondered where you went. Glad to hear of your plans. Will stay tuned. My next ortho surgeon is on 3/31. No info on EMG to share yet. Pretty sure I have Brachial Plexus or axillary nerve damage. And/or suprascapular nerve. Not a neurologist, so just my opinion from what I am learning. Pain and numbness are still present,
Lee
My cubital syndrome injection lasted 6 hours of no pain. Felt great and they took that as a positive sign, but won't do anything further for me until I see the peripheral nerve specialist. They want to see what his opinion is. So the pain continues. See pain doctor tomorrow.
