With so many bone meds , it's hard they all seem very bad... Fosamax sucks
We all want to increase bone density and prevent fractures.
The vit supplement confusing

It depends on where you are. Have you had a DEXA?

Fosamax only 2 months I can't stand it. Cramps bp increases flushing and headache ..
I want to do diet weight bearing I think but my next dexa scan isn't until October this year

If your osteoporosis is serious, it is better to start with a bone builder like Forteo, Tymlos or Evenity and then "lock in gains" with a bisphosphonate. Fosamax and Reclast are bisphosphonates, according to my doctor and various resources.

I just found out that if you are on medication, you can have a DEXA early.

Do you have an endocrinologist?

dukemayo, I'll suggest Forteo or Tymlos.
there aren't that many choices.
Antiresorptive medications all the bisphophonates oral or injectible plus Prolia work by thwarting the normal bone building process. They increase bone density by collecting old bone.
There two anabolics Forteo and Tymlos. They stimulate the process of bone building which involves removing older fissured bone and replacing it with new bone.
Then there is Evenity which initially builds bone and then works by preventing the normal process. Though there is another understanding that has the processes alternating.
All of the medications can reduce the risk of fracture. Some can make you miserable while working for someone else.
Since you are osteoporotic, I would suggest starting with an anabolic. Tymlos is thought to be a little more effective than Forteo. But an individual may have a negative reaction to either or both. They are kind medications clearing your system within 24 hours. So if you react you don't have to suffer long.
I hope you've quit the misery of Fosamax.
I'm on Forteo and will be for a third year. I've only had good experiences with this medication. It is also the only medication I've taken.
This is a great forum to hear everything from both sides.
