bloody nipple discharge found during lumpectomy....

Posted by tculton @tculton, Aug 28, 2023

Hi, im 32 and just had a lumpectomy on my left breast. The mass was 7mm irrigated and hyperecho. during surgery my doctor found bloody discharge in the lower portion of my nipple. (bloody discharge is what brought me to this point.) My Mammogram was a CAT4a low chances for cancer but still alarming. I have no idea if the bloody discharge is normal in a benign since, or this is something i need to take in and come to terms. precancerous were found but during my first biopsy the cells were fragmented (just floating around in there)

hi, im very new and still waiting on my lumpectomy report. Back in July I told my PCP about bloody discharge from my left breast. I have always had discharge from both breast since the birth of my son back in 2012. However this year I noticed bloody discharge and reported it to my PCP, a mammogram was done as well as a ultrasound the same day due to a mass of 7mm. this mass was irregular angular and hypoechoic. The biopsy report stated atypical cells (fragmented) blood was also found ( dr stated odds are it was because of the procedure) as well as a lot of inflammation. On the 1st biopsy ADH could not be excluded. But on the operation report from my lumpectomy it states ADH as a DX. A portion of the lower nipple had bloody discharge as well. I was told my results from my lumpectomy would be done in one week. its going on two. With the shape of the mass and the blood found in both the needle biopsy and the lumpectomy should I brace myself for the big chance of having Cancer? does the fragment atypical cells a sign of invasive cancer? blood and random breast pain was my only symptom. My mass was nonpalpable... could I have cancer in other areas and not know it?? My mind is starting to get to me. Im only 32. I have so many questions but my doctor (not my PCP) isnt very welcoming....I feel like Im just a number. I feel like im being not....blown off....but i dont know... I feel like im being treated for a boil instead of the possibility of cancer...if that makes sense? Im trying to find someone like me, and wanting to know their outcome...and im also just hear to vent my emotions because well....i feel like family dont want to talk about the big C, telling me we dont know yet...sadly however in my heart i feel like i do. (thank god my heart isnt a doctor) to top it all off, i found all this out after one year of my mothers passing. The time i need her the most....Emotions are high... thank you for reading my small book... im hoping to have someone with issues close to mine.

I don't know where you are but I have been very fortunate to have access to a wonderful team.
When I met with my surgical oncologist, she armed me with a notebook of resources including their business cards. among them was the name and the role of a nurse navigator. I am attaching the sheet that tells of that role. Prayers that you get answers soon.

@tculton, how are you doing today? Have you discussed the results of the lumpectomy with the doctor yet?
