Blood and blood clots

Posted by miller52 @miller52, Apr 4 6:38pm

I have been urinating blood with blood clots for the last two days. I tried getting in touch with my urologist, but he hasn’t responded back. What do I need to do?

If this happens to me, I will be going to the emergency department of a hospital nearest to my residence. Maybe this is easy for me to say because practically I don't have to pay here in Ontario (Canada), except for the parking fee. But this has two days for you already, I am not sure if you consider this as emergency?

Concur if me I would go to ER.

You did not metioned if you had RP, biopsies, radiation of your prostate. Did you have any of these?

If so your urologist should have gone over side effects of your procedure and what to expect and when to be concerned and go to ER.

I don't want to go into what you should expect as I am not you nor familiar what you had done. When I had my biopsies was told what to expect and that expectation came true but I was not alarmed as was told it was common and when to be concerned.

How long ago did you get surgery? It's not abnormal to urinate blood clots after surgery, as well as scabs and sutures.

I’m not sure. That’s what I’m trying to find out. It’s not still going on. I’m going to go to the hospital tomorrow.

I had surgery and radiation last year. My urologist said that I would probably leak blood when I have a strained bowel movement. But nothing about urinating blood.

When you had your biopsies did they mentioned the possibility of blood in urine?

I did not have surgery just radiation. So I cannot give my experience with surgery and side affects not what my urologist and R/O gave me about the surgery and side affects.

I do not have the information about surgery and if leaking blood would be a side affect and why? I see miller52 send you a post but again I did not have surgery.

What I found at Mayo Jacksonville if you can't get ahold of your urologist or R/Os you can always call your ER and advise them on what is happening. At Mayo they have on call department doctors to answer questions and give advise after hours.

@miller52, did you see a doctor? What did you find out? How are you doing?

I passed blood and clots about six months after a 38 round of radiation. They lasted a day and happened three or four times. A cysto showed minor irritation to the urethra that that ultimately resolved. Scary thing though.

Good luck.

I had blood clots after my biopsy and was told it's normal for a couple days, but not after my radiation treatment. Is there blood all the time? If I were you, I would go get it checked.
