Bladder Spasms 7 Months Post-RALP

Posted by conaway2 @conaway2, Aug 1, 2023

I’ve begun having bladder spasms in the past several days. Otherwise, seven months post-surgery, continence has almost completely returns.

Have other experienced this well after surgery ? If so, how do you deal with it ?

Thanks,
Jim

@conaway2
My dad had Neurogenic Bladder caused primarily by Spinal Cord Injury and multiple surgeries. He used the medication Ditropan which helped. However, I believe this medication may have been discontinued although there could be generics available and newer bladder medications.
Has your doctor prescribed anything to help?
Take care,

Have you asked your surgeon or urologist?
Oxybutynin was rx'd for me for possible bladder spasms during salvage radiation.

My husband was sent home from surgery with Oxybutynin, in case of spasm. He didn't have any and we understood these may occur immediately post surgery during the healing. Seven months seems like a long time, I think a call to the surgeon is warranted.

The urine analysis ordered by my urologist showed I had a UTI. I started 500 mg tabs of ciprofloxacin yesterday, and experienced almost immediate relief. 18 hours later, symptoms have almost entirely disappeared.

I’ve never had a UTI, don’t know how I got it - but I’ll recognize one in the future.

I had radiation in April & May, and have had 4 UTIs since. Same as Conaway2, no idea why we get those.
I think it's because the bladder never completely emptys, and bacteria can form. I'm on ciprofloxacin
as well. Conaway2, what symptoms did you notice?? Burning, a few tiny blood specks in the toilet,
and peeing A LOT.
