Bladder incontinence advice needed

Posted by kyle1976 @kyle1976, 7 hours ago

Hello, I am hoping for some advice on pads. I suffer mixed urinary incontinence as a result of a gang attack. At times I completely lose control of my bladder after getting 4 seconds notice that I needed the washroom and laughing, coughing, walking etc causes me to leak a lot. I use Tena flex maxi ultima pads which are the only ones that seem to be effective but the only clothes I seem to be able to wear are track pants as they can accommodate for the pad absorbing urine and nearly zero leakage-but pads cost a lot and so I try to go through as few as possible, but I am self conscious about the sometimes very visible bulk of the pad. I can sometimes feel people staring, and for eg- I stood in the train carriage for 34 minutes - wondering if I was visibly wet.
Hoping for any advice on dealing with situations like this, pads, clothes etc.

Thank you !

Hi Kyle,
I'm so sorry that you had that bad incident that caused you to have incontinence! How awful for you! I'm 79 and also have incontinence; probably due to age. I use Poise pads and put toilet paper on them. Then when I leak, I can just remove the toilet paper and the pad will still be dry. Poise has various sizes so you can find the one that will work best for you. I wear one pad at home with the toilet paper, but when I go places I wear two pads and the toilet paper also. I get Poise pads through Amazon on their Subscribe and Save program. With that program you get 15% off and free shipping. You can also get other items on that program such as toilet paper, cleaning items, paper towels etc. with the same offer of 15% off and free shipping. The Poise website also has coupons available to print out.

I limit how many places I go at one time. That way, there is less of a chance of having an accident in public. Before I go places I also limit the amount of liquid I drink and try to drink as little liquid when I'm out as possible. However, you have to be careful not to get dehydrated. Drink a lot of water when you return home so you are certain you are not becoming dehydrated. Winter is much less stressful because you can wear a long coat that hides any visible unexpected leaking.

There are some medications that can be injected that will stop the leaking. I had that done and didn't leak for 9 years. However, the leaking finally returned and now they don't use that medication any longer. They have some new medications to stop the leaking but the doctor said they only work about 80% of the time. So, I decided at my age, I should just live with this condition. It could be something worse. At least it's not fatal.

I hope things get better for you. Let me know if you have any questions. I'll say a prayer for you.
