I get it because I've been in your exhausted, anxious shoes. Benzos are to be prescribed for short term use only - and that means weeks, not months. Like you, I benefitted greatly and I was prescribed for 25 YEARS!!! Not a single MD told me about the side effects and shame on me for not researching it. It was such a relief to sleep and get through my days without feeling like an engine was running in my chest that I enjoyed the ride.

Using Klonopin long-term can lead to dependence. Over time, it will likely stop working requiring higher doses. Stopping suddenly can cause serious withdrawal symptoms and long-term use is linked to memory issues, slower thinking, emotional numbness, and an increased risk of depression and falls, especially in older adults. Some studies suggest a possible link to dementia. Because of these risks, doctors usually recommend short-term use which is why they aren't prescribing it (and I wish mine hadn't). It took me 18 months to slowly wean off of it. I miss the calming effects, but am grateful to be off - I found an MD who helped me safely withdraw. I also got ideas from an online support group called Benzo Buddies. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but I hope you will consider the facts. Probably because it's dangerous to combine those 2 meds on a regular basis. I too suffer from insomnia and anxiety. I recently started taking citalopram for hot flashes because I had to stop hormones because I was diagnosed with cancer in Feb. I also took omeprazole daily but had to stop that because of drug interaction. I did take a flexeril nightly but was afraid to take them after reading interaction with my citalopram. I took one last night because I really needed more than 3 hours of sleep. I know I can't do that every night though. I take xanax daily for anxiety but it's only half of a half mg tablet. It's not a lot but it's all I need. Have you googled nonprescription sleep aids? My sister is a nurse practitioner in Athens but I'm not sure if you could get both there either. If doctors refuse to prescribe certain meds together there is a very good reason. Hope you find what works. ❤️

I had the same problem with getting my prescription for Klonopin after my Dr retired, and l had to see someone new...

I was on a step-down regimen, taking less and less over time. Too fast!!! I was having withdrawal symptoms, so l was prescribed Gabapentin which helped immensely. I had to add Belsomra for sleep.

I won't have to stop the Gabapentin, because it helps with restless legs and cramping l was having.

I hope you will be prescribed the necessary medicine to help you discontinue the benzo. It can be a hard row to hoe.
