Barrett’s without dysplasia

Posted by jestes @jestes, Apr 16, 2023

This past November I was diagnosed with Barrett’s without dysplasia. I have been taking protonix and had a follow up endoscopy in March. This second endoscopy again showed no dysplasia. My GI recommends another endoscopy in a year.
I’m fearful that this condition will eventually progress to dysplasia or even worse, esophageal cancer. What steps/ non surgical treatment options are available that might prevent this progression?

I was diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus probably ten years ago. I have an esophagus which doesn't move my food so I have to force the food down with water or tea. Warm tea works best. Nothing hot nor cold. It has been quite a trip. I had a Nissen Fundoplication but it came undone. Actually that was 2000. Twenty three years ago. I take an Rx called Carafate. I believe it is a wonder drug. You should look it up. I wish you the best. Also, I believe God is our Healer.

I was diagnosed in Nov of 2018 with BE no dysplasisa. I then went on a low acid diet immediately. I was put on Pantaprazole 40mg 1/2 hr before supper.
No booze, soda, citrus drinks. I only drink unsweetened almond milk, decaf green tea, lots of water and i drink low acid coffee in the morning. Stop eating tomato based products or spicey foods. Cut out all pepper and salt. No vinegar based foods either. Eat baked or steamed chicken, fish, and green veggies. Avoid fried fatty foods and most fast foods. Buy the book "the acid watcher diet" off of Amazon. It explains what is going on. Don't eat 3-4 hrs before bedtime.
Raise your headboard 6". Cut out salty junk food. No smoking cigs or weed. Good luck! You'll lose weight being on this diet. Exercise daily too. I get scoped in October so I hope my BE is not seen on scope.

Thanks for all this information! I pray your scope in October shows no signs of Barrett’s!

I was told Protonix heals the esophagus. I've been taking it for years. My first endoscopy showed a very red and irritated esophagus. A year later, even though I still had reflux issues, my esophagus looked pink and healthy. Steer clear of foods that cause reflux. I have lots of triggers, tomatoes, chocolate, tea, coffee, cinnamon, spicy foods, OJ, etc. Pineapple is the absolute worst. Causes chest pain for a week so never again. Reflux doesn't always feel like burning, but sometimes chest pain or my voice goes hoarse. Watch for all of those signs to help you eliminate foods that are bad for you. I also bought an adjustable bed so I could keep the head of my bed elevated a few inches. Best of luck with your next scope!

Hello, how soon did the nissen come undone? How did you know? I had the nissen a couple of months ago
