AUS - In need of fashion advice: What to wear post-op?
Oh, I don't have a thing to wear...
Artificial urinary sphincter surgery is 2 weeks, so I was wondering what we can wear post-op.
I assume (for at least the first couple of weeks) normal underpants are too uncomfortable.
And if it's boxers, how exactly do we keep the pads in place?
I'm planning on moving very little for the first 2 weeks, but once back to work, what can I wear?
And having read about the wonders of a bag of frozen peas held down there while in bed, to reduce pain & swelling... how does that work with the pad on?
So many questions....

Hi, my husband is preparing for RP so I found those on Amazon for him to try https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DGT53JYL?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2&th=1 and he is very pleased with comfort. I ordered one size larger so they do not press on anything but still will hold in place pads and catheter etc. They are made of very soft cotton and elastic is also comfortable. He usually wears low rise briefs so I was trying to find something more practical but still nice looking. They have opening on the "fly" area so catheter can pass there and connect to a bag.
Regarding ice- it should never be right next to your skin. Same applies to icing any other part of your body. There should always be thin fabric between your skin and ice and pad should not be big obstacle for cooling effect to happen.
Thanks for that.
I have a bunch of Damn Dry underwear.

I'm hoping that they're good enough to not need pads at all, post-op.
I'll bear that in mind about the ice & see how I go.
Good luck on hubby's RP.
When is it?
Very good video series here for you:
Thanks for good luck wishes - he is scheduled for mid August. We hoped for sooner date but his surgeon is traveling and will be back in August. We wanted that particular surgeon since he did thousands of RARPs , so we have to wait. Everybody in that center told us that my husband is not "urgent" case, I have to trust them or I will go nuts ... His Decipher is 100 so I have no idea how it is not "urgent", but "what do I know" XP. I put him on 50 supplements and low protein diet so his PSA went down by 2 (and some) points , so hopefully "bad guys" are not multiplying at the moment (knock the wood).
I am also wishing you super successful surgery and very fast recovery with complete resolution of incontinence :). Let us know how it went !
After the catheter removal, I wore Men's Depends in the size I normally would wear. For me, they worked well, while being cautious with my activities until things got back to normal. You will adapt to whatever works best for you, try not to worry too much.
I was very happy using the TENA brand absorbent guard in my regular cotton briefs. The briefs held the shaped pad in place and the pad was very absorbent. Keep working on your Kegel exercises and you won’t need the pads as long.
Cool. We have those here, Thanks very much.
I guess I had a super surgeon because my overall recovery was more from anesthesia than the 4 hours on the table. No pain to speak of. No limit to physical activity except for no lifting more than 10# for whatever time your surgeon says.
Do check with your surgeon as to how long you'll wait for AUS activation after surgery. Mine was 6-weeks to heal and stabilize.
Till then you'll be at the same point of incontinence as before surgery.
I and all of us hope and pray you'll recover excellent (not necessarily perfect) continence thanks to AUS activation.
