Arthritic lower back stiffness disappeared after fall. What happened?

I fell down on my back, rolled a bit, and my lower lumbar arthritic stiffness is gone. I feel like I did years ago. Walking feels normal and no longer an effort. What happened?

I am 71 and in excellent shape. I lift weights, have a muscular appearance, fairly low fat, and have great lung capacity. My arthritis is nagging and has been for years. A hip was replaced a couple of years ago. Knees and hands are perfect. My neck is often too sore to work in the kitchen although exercises have helped a lot. My lower back, until today, made walking from room to room a challenge sometimes. Annoying stiffness, not crippling pain.

Today I fell from pulling on something heavy where the rope snapped. I fell on my lower back and rolled. The lower back hit more at the top of my rear end than on the tail bone. No bruising. No sharp pain. Just a little discomfort that faded.

But, now my lower lumbar arthritic stiffness pain is gone and I have a spirit in my step. I haven't walked like this for years. I hope it continues.

What happened?

Continued from above ...

I did a little research and the problem I thought was arthritis might only be some form of glute muscle stiffness. For years. Constant. Debilitating. Sore muscles can be treated. When I landed hard I may only have been tenderizing the meat, so to speak, and relaxing tightness I confused with arthritis. I feel energized just knowing this.

I will continue looking into this and would appreciate hearing from others with experience in this matter.

bob5000, I think you gave yourself a chiropractic adjustment. The meat tenderizer idea is a little more fun.

@bob5000
Did you ever have a MRI of your lumbar spine? When you fell/rolled, you may have shifted some things around and released a compressed nerve or a disc bulge retreated some providing some relief. It does sound like you did your own chiropractic adjustment like @gently said. 😉

I remember something from when my lower back pain first started. A friend of a friend worked at a ski area. He had very bad back pain. One day he was somewhere out on a slope when a skier ran into him. After picking himself up from the snow, he noticed that most, of not all, of his pain had disappeared. Interesting.

Bob5000,
Congrats ! My situation is similar. From age 50 to 60 I was tormented by failing disks L-3 to s-1 to the point that I was put on Federal disability.
One morning while changing a lightbulb, standing on a bed I fell backwards landing on a chair arm square on my lower spine. Unspeakable Pain resulted. As that pain faded so did the old pain. I weaned myself off a heavy dose of Tramadol.
That was 18 years ago!
My hair braided theory Is I either cut the nerves or did the most painful chiropractic adjustment ever. I altered my activities admittedly but continue to lead a pretty normal gre8ful life.
Good luck Bob after curing yourself.

Fun notes:

My cousin had a similar experience many years ago. Injured-life changing pain-injured again similarly-cured.

I raised a Large family without the advantage of a degree or a trade. I believe my decades of very long work days weakened
my spine.

Thank you all for your replies. I had no idea there were so many others who got the cure in a way similar to me.

Yes, it seems I had a chiropractic procedure done on me by Dr. Cement Floor. I can't say much for his technique but I can't argue with the results. Seriously, I Googled this a bit and I think I saw what a real Chiropractor would have done. Now that I know what they can do, I will not be a stranger to one if I have another need.

Don't go back to that same dr Floor.

Reading all the comments about a falling incident resolving pain, I would like to know what your pain was like prior to falling. There is pain(3-5) and there is PAIN(7-9). I would gladly like to make an appointment with Dr. Cement Floor, MD if it might help my daily pain(constant 8). Waiting to hear your responses.
