Aromatase Inhibitors and Elevated Liver Enzymes

Posted by teacher22 @teacher22, Jul 20 6:38pm

Has anyone taken Anastrozole for estrogen+ HER2- breast cancer and have elevated liver enzymes? I was put on Anastrozole after my mastectomy, and was taken off it after one month when my AST and ALT liver enzymes were high on a liver panel. They have remained high, and now there is a concern that I may have autoimmune hepatitis. I am really scared that my liver enzymes will skyrocket even if doctors let me take Letrozole after they figure out my liver issues. What if a woman with Estrogen+ breast cancer is unable to take an aromatase inhibitor? Are there other medications available? I am really scared because I don't want a recurrence.

I researched this about 10 years ago as I was put on
Letrozole. It was crippling me. I changed to exemestame. Better for me.
But I was looking for an alternative to even that drug.
Back then I looked into natural aromatase inhibitors.
What I found were mushrooms.
There are now mushroom capsules.
You maybe want to consider going to a reputable naturopath and discussing.
If your cancer is not progesterone positive, you may want to consider progesterone cream or yam cream. Both help against estrogen dominance.
Take a look at a Dr John Lee, a fascinating dr who worked with his patients and found most wheres estrogen dominant.
He put them on the progesterone cream. He discovered using his patients monitoring, and tested, it helped REVERSE osteoporosis.
Controversy at the time, but his patients got great result.
Best wishes and blessing as you search for yourself.

Tamoxifen is another option, and there are other AI’s that may not affect liver function. Keep asking questions and talking with your doctors - this will get figured out.

The problem with tamoxifen is that I had endometrial cancer last year, so it wouldn't be an option for me. I read that letrozole isn't as toxic to the liver, so I'm hoping doctors will let me try it. Thank you for your response to my post!

Hi
I have hormone positive breast cancer stage 0. I am not taking any of these meds. Don't know what stage you are but oncologist said side effects were not worth it. Numbers didn't show it would be worth the risk for me to take anything.

I have Stage 1. My oncologist said that I would have to take an aromatase inhibitor. I wonder if there are Stage 1 patients who do not need to take an aromatase inhibitor.
