Are there benefits to metformin besides glucose control

I have had A1C of 6.5 for the last couple years and have been trying to control it with better diet and exercise and supplements. It's not going down so I'm considering a low dose of metformin and I'm wondering if it also helps with weight control and erectile dysfunction. I asked this since the diabetes affects my weight and no doubt my erections. Viagra doesn't seem to work very well so I'm wondering if I go on metformin what else it'll change besides better A1C readings?.

bohemianguy1, if your kidneys are good, and your physician agreeable give it a try. The studies are associative and are mixed. Some studies show reduced testosterone and reduced sex drive. Maybe have your testosterone levels checked before taking metformin.
