Are my symptoms actually VM or something else?

Posted by ggreene5 @ggreene5, 2 days ago

So my symptoms started in November with alot of stress and depression from my job and me contracting hsv 2 oral and gential which lead to 2 weeks of health anxiety, on a weekend i woke up to feeling things were different, my eyes were more sensitive to movement, trouble tracking fast objects, lack of eye focus, convergency issues especially when closed, sensitive to screen/ computer blue lights, listening to music with my earbuds causing inital pain but subsided overtime. Looking at my screen would cause eye fatigue aswell. and cold temperatures casuing facial pain and soreness. along with sharp right ear pain. I never had a headache or migraine symptoms. i did have bppv as a kid and growing up had strange vertigo attacks out of the blue that brought on by anxiety. it only lasted a couple seconds.

i caught the flu A in december ,with my first outbreak happening the exact same time took a thc sleep gummy and woke up to my hed feeling heavy and drunk, non spinning vertigo, movement sensations and feeling a sensation like im being pulled to the side and trembling. i caught secondary infection soon after 3 weeks of agony from the flu which immediately caused internal movement sensations to my own voice and sounds, feeling disorientatd around people and crowds.,moving in trains. tingling in random parts of my body, watching spinning on screens and such would make me feel uncomfortable. and nausea.

Over the months my symptoms kept changing and changing and the movement sensations, non spinning vertigo and swaying, little shaking have been constant or changed the function in how worse it gets or how its triggered or worsened( ex i was having a hot shower and had a flareup from that hot temperatures and showering with hot water was causing clockwise spinning, more pronounced when i close my eyes) i noticed foods were causing movement sensations aswell and once were safe things to eat eventaully starteed immediately triggering a reaction. even chicken and kale are causing symtpoms two stuff that used calm my symptoms now were.. even something as plain sugar and salt is giving minor flareups recently, ginger used to help and so did mag glycnate but its not doing anything anymore. Recently i cant look at my screen or phone withou feeling non spinnning sensation and have trouble sleeping. i can especially feel it at night when i sleep and its annoying.

I did the vng and revealed a 55% weakness in right ear the same ear that had alot of ear pain, but from doing vng my sensations started into internal spinning sensations and internal vertigo that more pronounced when i closed my eyes.

i tried explaining this to my neurologist but she only focused on the sound sensitivty and screen to blue light and said vm i didnt even get a chance to explain all my symptoms. she prescribed nort but not sure if its helping. my symtpoms have remained but i have better sleep slightly, im trying to expand my diet but i get this feling of anxiety and pressure in my throat after trying something i cut out originally. i have to rest when i get home lay down and close my eyes for everything to recalibrate as i see it.

Im not sure whats going on but its been months of this and constant changing symtpoms. is this VM or something else

Did you have COVID by chance? A lot of what you mentioned is experienced by some with long COVID syndrome

possibly i did lose my sense of smell and taste for a couple days when i was sick. They only tested for flu

Consider looking up long COVID syndrome to see if you feel your symptoms are similar. It’s worth a shot

Other than a neurologist, what other doctors have you seen/worked with? Are you taking an antiviral medication like valacyclovir for your HSV2? That virus stays with you for life and lives in your nervous system and gets reactivated with stress, illness, etc. It is important to manage triggers and reactivation of the virus to minimize symptoms. The virus can definitely mess with your central and peripheral nervous system.

Have you seen an ENT, eye, gastrointestinal, immunologist and dietitian/nutritionist to help you with testing/treatment options? Have you had extensive bloodwork beyond testing for flu/HSV2 to see if anything else shows up abnormal?

I booked an appointment with immunologist and seeing her in two weeks for evaluation, i did see an eye doctor but she believed it was dry eyes and prescribed eye drops which didnt do anything, i made another appointment with another eye doctor and will ask for blue light precription lenses. My ent is the one that refferred me to the neurologist that i saw but will loook into a different one specializing with movement disorders. I have a appointment with gastro for a followup as i had giardis lambili last month. thats all so far im seeing another internal medicine doctor tomorrow and doing another bloodwork with him. I'm not taking any antivirals for hsv2 but will ask him for regular prescription as im starting to believe there might be a connection between hsv and my symptoms and possibly long covid.

You could consider consulting with a neuroopthalmologist for the vertigo, dizziness, difficulty with screen time, if he/she finds a problem there are vestibular therapies.

Have you had a brain MRI or CT scan recently?
