Don't know if this is the place, but if not, I am sure I will be directed appropriately.
.
Since the discovery of arthritis in one foot, and a rebalancing from 8 months of PT for sciatica, I am noticing my balance is getting worse, and wish some support for the shower/bath.
.
Basically, I've seen two types of security handrails - suction cup mount, and permanently affixed.
.
I am looking for opinions on either or both. I am HOPING my Medicare will cover costs.
.
Thankmews in advance.

@kaptainkat I would go for the permanently affixed rails every time. And while you are at it, get one by the toilet as well. (We replaced the nearby towel bar with an attractive grab bar, nobody realizes what it really is.) We had the unfortunate experience of a suction bar coming loose on one end in our old shower after my hip replacement, luckily I was not hurt.
Medicare Part B may pay a portion (generally 80% of their approved amount) for the installed bars as durable medical equipment if 1) deemed medically necessary by your provider, 2) you are given a written prescription, and 3) your specific policy or supplement offers the coverage.
If Medicare does not cover it for you, or only covers part, check with the VA if you are a Vet, or your state's Agency on Aging to see if they offer help. Or sometimes local fraternal organizations or Senior Chore services can help. If someone offers to help you install bars, make sure they anchor both ends securely into the wall with proper anchors, or directly into the studs.
Does this give you some ideas where to begin looking?
