Anyone with a PSA in the 11's or close?
So, for background, 57 years old, recently had two PSA tests, first was 11,9, second a month later 11.7. No symptoms aside from occasional slow to start urine stream if I don't hit the bathroom for an extended period of time. No blood in any fluids. No pain.
GP refers me to a Urologist. Urologist schedules me for an MRI and ultrasound guided biopsy in January of 2026. Pretty much consensus between my GP and Urologist has been if I have PC it could have already spread due to my PSA level and get my affairs in order but stay positive as there are things they can do. Not the most uplifting but ok, going from getting ready for the holidays to getting my affairs in order. Cool. And now the waiting begins until mid-January. Even better...
I've been researching a lot and noted that there wasn't much out there specific to my PSA levels and probable outcomes beyond anything between PSA 10 - 20 is increased risk of PC and above 50 is getting dicey relative to spread.
So, anyone on here with a PSA in the 11's or close who could share what their journey has been? I get that its case by case/the individual but would appreciate some perspective from similar PSA type folks.

Other very experienced members here will soon explain all of that in detail, but in the meantime I just want to say that your 11 PSA does not have to mean that you have cancer.
It is impossible to even know IF you have cancer before first MRI is done, and than after that if anything is suspicious a targeted biopsy. And than after that a PSMA scan to check for possible spread .
Person can have elevated PSA for many other reasons - like enlarged gland, or inflammation etc. I am flabbergasted and shocked that they told you to put your affairs in order before other confirming tests were done ! Even if it all turns to be true, PC patients nowadays have so many advanced treatments that "affairs" will wait for many years, if ever *hugs
Can you go somewhere else for a second opinion ? Do you have close-by Cancer Center of Excellence and go there to seek help ?

3 Reactions@surftohealth88 My new GP made the affairs in order comment. Just switched to him. I plan on shopping around for another GP once I get this whole PC thing figured out. The Urologist was more I think prepping me with potential outcomes most likely due to my questions, but I can get 2nd opinions if and when it gets to that point.

1 ReactionAt a Mayo clinic they have talked about the fact that the highest PSA they saw was over 20,000. I know many people who had it in the hundreds some even over 1.000. In those cases, Prostate cancer is pretty certain.
Most people with prostate cancer don’t have any symptoms at all, Even with very advanced cases.
Your problem peeing could Be just BPH which causes your prostate to enlarge and causes your PSA to be higher than normal. Had a friend whose PSA was always around 50 had multiple biopsies and they never found anything.
After the MRI and biopsy, if the MRI shows something you will know a lot more.
Everybody with prostate cancer is different so if you talk to somebody with a PSA of 11, they could have a totally different case then you have.

3 ReactionsGood move to look for other doctors. Any GP or Urologist that told me to "get my affairs in order" with a PSA of 11 without any other tests would make me run to find different doctors. They have no right to tell someone that no matter how high the PSA is. Especially without other tests being done. PSA is just one piece of the puzzle. And like Jeff posted there are other reasons for high PSA. If you read on this and other forums there are people with much higher PSA's that cancer has not spread and treated successfully living normal long lives. Wishing you the best

..PSA of 11 could be from many reasons aside from PC..worst case scenario that you do have PC, then prob a variety of treatment options...you need a new urologist, a 3T MRI ( 3 Tesla machine with contrast) then asses situation...I suspect you will be around for quite a few more Christmas seasons !
