Anyone taking Tamsulosin+Finasteride with LESS nocturia?
I'm 73, have had BPH for 1 year, my high PSA led to a prostate MRI last April 2024, which showed no cancer, large prostate, and a lateral inguinal hernia (no visible bulges, discoloration, or pain (yet, in watchful waiting mode).
My combined therapy of taking Tamsulosin (for 1 year now) and Finasteride (for 6 months now) have reduced my nocturia visits from 4-5x/night to 0-1x/night starting recently (mostly 0 now) with much better sleep and disposition! I see my urologist to discuss things later this month.
Anyone out there with a similar experience in reducing nighttime urination visits while taking a combined therapy, and if so, are you continuing to take one or both meds, etc. ?

I recently heard from someone in a prostate cancer video conference that taking Gentessa in the morning and Ditropan in the evening resolved his incontinence and urgency issues. Guess there may be more than one solution to the problem.
Most men that I know in their 70s have 3-4x per night bathroom visits even with Flomax. Your normal to me. Enjoy your 70s.
I think your percentage is high. I get up once most nights, zero occasionally, 77 in 8 days. Of the 7 monthly prostate cancer online groups I attend, most people do not have that problem. Yes some do maybe 20%.
I agree, that's very high to me. Also, I wonder if the 20% group has BPH, a common cause of nocturia.
BTW, I don't drink water after dinner, only a sip with my PM meds. That also helps to control night bathroom visits.
Thanks for your feedback.
Ok mr. Scorpio, the 7 men I know here in Michigan in their 70s have that problem as well as TURPs too. 76 in 6 days: a week older than King Charles.
Try some salty popcorn too. Lol
In my case I’m pretty sure with the reason I have to get up once is because I have to take Tylenol and gabapentin before going to sleep. If you don’t drink about 8 ounces of water when taking those you’re going to get acid ingestion in the middle of the night. Two hours after taking that I’m up peeing.
That's good to know, thanks.
I took Finasteride for years, some help, apparently it kept my prostate small, started getting up frequently 6 years ago and the doctor added Tamsulosin and it helped some. Then symptoms returned getting up 4 or 5 times a night. The doctor then added Myrbetriq four years ago and it was like magic, I was sleeping thru or only getting up once at night. The last year it has slowly stopped helping, now I'm back to getting up 5 times a night.
The doctor said I now need a procedure because tests show I am injuring my bladder by not being able to fully empty it. Myrbetriq was expensive, but worked very well for about 3 years.
oldoz ... thanks so much, very helpful to know in case I need to discuss with my urologist. Best wishes.
