Anyone on Gleevec (imatinib) and Tagrisso (osimertinib) ?
I’m the lucky duck with a newly diagnosed esophageal GIST and Stage IV lung cancer (NSCLA). I’ve been on Tagrisso since early February with a few inconvenient side effects (diarrhea, dry skin, runny nose and eyes). The surgeon, in consultation with my oncologist, would like to start me on Gleevec for the GIST prior to surgery.
1. Has anyone been on both of these at the same time?
2. What symptoms have you experienced on Gleevec?
3. Has anyone here had esophagectomy surgery?
Thanks!

@mimicmckay, I added your discussion to the Lung Cancer support group as well where members are talking about Tagrisso.
You will find many discussions about esophagectomy in the Esophageal Cancer support group, like this one:

Did you start Gleevec? How is it going?
May I ask why you are having esophagectomy surgery? For GIST?
Thank you for the response. I didn’t realize there was an esophagectomy support group. That’s awesome!
I will start Gleevec at the end of the week.
The surgeon felt there was a high chance of “cure “ since I’m 58, otherwise very healthy and active with no co-morbidities. The tumor is very localized but 3.5x2.5 cm. It grew slightly but has a much higher SUV number than the scan 3 months prior. She wants me to be on the Gleevec for at least a month and then we will re-scan and re-assess the plan. My understanding was that removal of the GIST + Gleevec is highly effective in reducing recurrence. And since I was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer in January (responding really well to chemo +Tagrisso) the team wants to be aggressive. Do you know of other options??
