Anyone here dealing with charcot foot disease?
My husband has been diagnosed with Charcot foot disease. His doctor advised he is at great risk of losing his leg (he also has pyoderma gangrenosum on same leg). He put him in an air cast. It has stopped the pain in the foot but foot remains swollen.

Hello @charlie24, So sorry to hear your husband has been diagnosed with pyoderma gangrenosum in addition to his Charcot–Marie–Tooth Disease (CMT) diagnosis. Mayo Clinic has some information on pyoderma gangrenosum here - https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pyoderma-gangrenosum/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20350392.
While you wait for members with experience to respond, you might want to scan through the comments from other members who have mentioned CMT in a comment - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/comments/?search=Charcot.
There is some information on the treatment and management of the condition here:

Is the air cast your husband wears to help with the swelling also?
CMT doesn’t cause you to loose his leg, does he have diabetes?

@bgator, I think you may have missed it but she did tell the whole story - (he also has pyoderma gangrenosum on same leg) - If it goes to advanced pyoderma gangrenosum, it could cause complications and make things worse which I'm thinking is why the doctor said what he said about possibly losing his leg.
@charlie24, I can imagine you and your husband are worried and want to avoid amputation. I'm glad to hear that the orthopedic device (air cast) is helping to alleviate the pain.
It sounds like you might need more guidance from your husband's doctor. I would ask questions like:
- How can we avoid amputation?
- How might surgery recovery be affected by pyoderma gangrenosum?
Charlie24, does keeping the leg elevated help with swelling? Does you husband currently have any sores on the leg where the cast is?
Yes, he does have the pyoderma gangrenosum on the lower leg with the Charcot foot disease. He does keep his leg elevated and the swelling in the foot might decrease a bit, but the foot is always swollen.
