Anyone have success with PRP or stem cell injections for knees?
I have had one TKR in 2020, and before I set up surgery I’d like to hear about any alternatives out there. What I’ve found was not very encouraging so far. Thanks in advance for any input.

Hi there - after a knee replacement, and revision surgery on the same knee because of Arthrofibrosis, I began having Synvisc injections in my other knee, to hopefully reduce the likelihood of surgery. The Synvisc does help. At first I needed it every couple or three months, but now I seem to only need it every 6 months. The doctor who administers the injection uses imaging to reach the right location in the joint. I needed a referral to the pain clinic from my G.P. It has been worth it - this knee no longer hurts, even going up and down stairs.

3 Reactions9 years ago I had PRP done on both shoulders ( torn rotator cuffs), Hardly any pain during procedure, and only one day of restricted activity. Nine months later pain was totally gone and has not come back. I know this is muscle and not bone, but I've recommended this to a lot of people with bone issues. Mixed results, some good and some not much difference. to me it's worth a try since there is really no down time and not invasive at all.
Good Luck

1 ReactionI had a knee reconstruction 30 yrs ago. Always had some problems but nothing to make me get a replacement. I started PRP annually(about 6 yrs ago) with Euflexxa every 6months and my knee feels better than it has in years. It doesn't work for everyone, and it is not an immediate result. I think it is always worth trying.

3 ReactionsDo you remember where I. Knee it was injected? I had pro for bursitis, tendons and heel
Spurs in heel. It reduced my pain by 80%. Unfortunately. The injections in knee didn’t do much
@redbeets Why every year? I had it done in 2022 and not needed it since. PRP can be out of people's insurance coverage and expensive!
I’ve just had two TKRs, which I had after trying PRP injections. I really didn’t want surgery! My osteoarthritis had advanced to the point that the PRP was not effective, so surgery it was. I would try the PRP if I were you, unless your doctor can see the damage in the joint/s on an MRI and can tell the injections would not be in your best interest. Best of luck to you whatever you decide to do!

2 Reactions@redbeets I have had 2 knee replacements. 1st 20 yrs ago and 2nd 5 yrs ago. I still get slight pain in both knees. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thank you
@annshrader when I did it in 2019, dr. suggested I try 1 a few months (2020)later for reinforcement and I did and then I opted for one a few years(2022) later. I think of it as blood doping - Haven't had one since. I do know many others that had no positive results. It's still in its infancy. That process worked for me. I even saw the whole process for drawing and centrifuging your blood improve.
