Anyone have pins removed after hip pinning from femoral neck fracture?

I had a femoral neck fracture over a year ago and had 3 pins inserted and was wondering if anyone has had the pins removed? The pins are causing terrible hip bursitis. I have gotten one steroid shot which has helped a lot but I still cannot do stairs normally or lay on my hip. The ortho said the pins are protruding slightly and believes they are the cause of the bursitis. If you have had the pins removed what was recovery like? Thank you!
