I’m sorry to hear about this late appearing complication with the feeding tube causing scarring and now a second bowel obstruction. Have you decided to go through with the scar tissue removal. Any update?

Hi Colleen, thanks for responding. I hope I can help others in some way. I was able to gather my records from the local hospitals and overnighted them to MD Anderson. I’m waiting to hear back from them. I’m hoping I can find a doctor closer to home, maybe at Mayo in Jacksonville. That’s only 6 hours away from where we live and since MD Anderson is primarily a cancer hospital, I thought it might be good to be associated with Mayo. Hopefully, I will hear something from my surgeon at MD Anderson soon. Does anyone know of a gastroenterology surgeon at Mayo?

You mentioned that this is the second blockage. How was the first blockage resolved?

REPLY

My first blockage was resolved with an NG tube for 5 days in the hospital. The 2nd blockage was with a barium Scan. I was only admitted for a day on that one. I’m very concerned about the scar tissue being the cause and another blockage occurring. I’m going to reach out to MD Anderson tomorrow. No word yet since they received from record / scans.
I was hoping to learn about blockages after an esophagealectomy and how they are typically treated. The ER surgeons in the hospitals near me were not receptive after seeing my CAT scans. My organs (since the Ivor Lewis surgery) are not in their normal positions and they are hesitant to proceed.
