Anyone had a hip revision?

My 10 year old hip is leaking cobalt into blood
Doctor tells me a revision is very difficult

I have had 3 revisions done , the first 2 due to chromium and cobalt poisoning. The only way to get rid of the toxic metal is by removing the acetabular cup liner and the femur ball. tremors. Unless the damage is so severe bone is affected it is easier than the original total hip replacement because no bone needs to be cut.

If your surgeon is not familiar with this process please look for one who is I waited too long and the cobalt damaged the tissue in my leg, my thyroid and left me with a permanent tremor.

Doctor here in Fargo wanted me to go to Mayo. Nope, Mayo said hip hasn’t dislocated so not bad enough.
My cobalt count is climbing and so is pain.
One dr I saw said breaking femur is common with revisions

I am not sure where your nearest large ortho specialty group would be, but most have a doc who does most of the revisions. But more than that, dealing with the metal-on-metal hips that release cobalt and chromium is a different situation than a typical revision.
You need to get the information about the existing implant to share with the surgeons when you are calling for a consult.
Did you have a total hip replacement or a "resurfacing" - that is yet another issue.

My wife has had 4 revisions due to cobalt Chromium poisoning! I would recommend a revision ASAP! They had to remove the completely implant, place a medicated spacer for 8 weeks and then a new complete implant. In addition, while at rehab she was dropped on the shower floor and the rehab facility took zero responsibility! Be careful yet get that implant removed! There is a Stryker law suit for failed implants as well! BK Bernheim Kelley Battista, LLC at 617-865-3712; they should be contacted prior to surgery to determine if they can be of assistance and to secure the old implant for evidence!

I wish I had a doctor that would do it. 3 years ago I fell really hard on the left hip, thought it was nerve pain-nope. Pain worsening now with no end in sight
