Anyone had a biopsy to diagnose fibrous dysplasia?
I am wondering if you had a bone biopsy done to diagnose this disease? They recently found a lesion in my temporal bone in an x-ray. I am scheduled to have a craniotomy to remove part of the lesion for biopsy and have a small titanium plate inserted.

@cpy, I can imagine that you are concerned about having craniotomy. When will you have this done?
The biopsy is in mid-April - this is after a separate biopsy of my thyroid a few days before (separate doctors). The radiologist who found it incidentally thought it might be fibrous dysplasia, but two doctors thought it might be cancer so April is biopsy month. I am hoping for the fibrous dysplasia and simply autoimmune thyroid (I have Sjogren's), but I have had cancer previously. Fingers crossed.
Be aware that even titanium plates can be infected. That was my case and they had to be removed. Over a year later, am still dealing with bacteria in bone and facing another crainiotomy to remove bad bone. Not to scare you, but suggesting you ask detailed questions about any options other than plates being put in. There is a newish product (Singapore/Australian joint venture) called Osteopore, which "tapes" the bone together and then dissolves after 18 months, allowing bone to grow. There may still need to be plates involved, I'm not sure, but there are new developments all the time.
