Anyone else have pain in their upper arms at night?

Posted by kars @kars, Feb 6, 2025

I have pain in my upper arms at night and it hurts to turn over. The pain is not in my shoulders. Anyone else experience this? During the day I am fine.

I have the same thing in my right shoulder only. It comes from my job. All the 3" 3-ring binders I needed for reference were on the right side of my desk. If you are using both arms or one more than the other to pull things from shelves that above your elbows, this could be the cause.
Have you discussed this with your doctor? Perhaps an osteo dr. would be the next step in seeking relief.

Not sure as to what might be causing your nightly pain! I have experienced nightly pain since I had my Reclast infusion last June. Some nights are better than others but the pain never goes completely away. In addition, my left foot sometimes hurts to even stand on it and periodically nausea feeling and a constant feeling of exhaustion! Outside of this I guess I’m doing okay!

That could be rotator cuff (the muscles in your shoulder) injury. The pain actually shows up down a few inches in the upper arm. There are exercises that can help strengthen the muscles and take care of the injury and pain. Just a thought....I screwed up both my shoulders during knee replacement rehab because I needed to use my arms to push up and get me standing after sitting. The exercises helped fix the situation.
P.S. sometimes it wouldn't bother me till I was going to bed at night.

@luckypup Can you list and/or describe the exercises? I am having similar issues with upper arms. I can only lay on my side for so long before I have to move to my back.

So sorry to hear of that pain. I knew it well. I tried to post a link to YouTube but got blocked. If you can go to YouTube and search for Dr. Jeffrey Peng, the search his page for shoulder impingement or rotator cuff videos, he has several posts and includes exercise routines in some of them. I started with a one pound weight in each hand and then moved up to a 2 lb just for trying to strengthen it.
The only one I don't do is the external rotation exercises as it seemed to bother my arm more. I started out doing this routine once a day. It helped my bursitis quickly but I need to continue it at least 3 times to keep the bursitis from coming back.
He explains the shoulder troubles so you can check out if this is for you. I hope it helps.
