Anyone been diagnosed with IDC Stage 1 Grade 3?
I had DCIS in 2015, had a double mastectomy no reconstruction and no other treatment; in November 2025 was diagnose with IDC, stage 1 grade 3, hormone positive , HR2 negative. I’ve had the surgery and will be having focal field radiation for 5 days, then will be on AI. two of my sisters have also had breast cancer. For one of them it came back in 2023 and it was metastatic. She’s on medication for it. I’m 62 and have to admit reading the side effects of AIs on this forum has me concerned, but I don’t want to risk metastatic cancer. I’m praying and hoping I will have minimal side effects. I just want some peace of mind knowing I’m doing all I can to prevent a recurrence. Only God knows the number of my days. Where can I learn how to best deal with the side effects of AI’s?
Thank you

Glad you posted. I understand your concerns about AIs.
A few thoughts/questions--do you know if any of these breast cancers are genetic? Also, you can ask your oncologist directly what you individual risk is with or without the AI.
And you can start an AI and then try another--or quit--if the side effects are too much. Your oncologist should be a helpful partner in this decision.
Often in forums of this type folks with side effects understandably post more than those who tolerate a medication. You can find good advice on side effects throughout this support group , but maybe you won't need it. I gather that more than half of women on AI have little or no problems. I myself have been on letrozel for 3 1/2 years with no ill effect. For me, it was sort of an experiment rather than a fixed decision. I decided to try it and see how it went.
Wishing you the best with the radiation and then AIs.

Thank you for your response. I did test positive for a gene with breast cancer risk back in 2015 ( Not BRAC 1 or 2 though). It makes sense that those who have not experienced adverse side effects would be less likely to post in the forum. I tend to experience minimal side effects when I have been on medications and hopefully that will continue to be the case when I start the AI. Your comment has been more helpful than you realize. Thank you.
@hijadedios3 You are more than welcome--and I really appreciate hearing from you.
Hey! I started Letrozole in October and I haven’t had any side effects!! I almost didn’t take it bc I was worried about the side effects but I’m so glad I tried it. Best of luck to you! Praying for you as well!
I've been on Anastrozole for almost 6 years and really have not had the horrible side effects that some have had. Other than vaginal dryness which for many can now be solved with Estradiol cream and some hot flashes at night time, I have not had any major problems with the medicine. I have another year to go on this medicine and really can't believe I have already been on it for almost 6 years.
