Any tips for preparing for implant surgery and tummy fat graft?
Hi - I am going to have my tissue expanders replaced in late January, and fat will be taken from my tummy to smooth out the breasts. My cancer did not require chemo or radiation. My bilateral mastectomy was October 23.
I am *very pleased* with my medical team and the appearance of the plastic surgery done thus far . So I’m not asking for medical feedback here. But - if any of you have tips about preparing for “creature comforts” post surgery, I would welcome those!
I like to plan as best that I can for realistic surgery recovery. I’m not new to surgery, and I know planning ahead can make life easier!
Btw, I am 59.
Thank you in advance!!

I can comment on fat grafting I had done in October 2024 for cosmetic facial surgery. Went in thru belly button. No scarring. Stomach was badly bruised but all healed within 4 to 5 weeks. No issues.
Thank you. What was your pain level post surgery? Also, were you able to wear sweat pants (or any waist band) during recovery?
No pain from fat grafting. And I did not wear my jeans for 2-3 weeks anyway. You won’t want to wear anything tight around waist. The bruising was a little scary for me but surgeon acted like it was no big deal. Cleared up in several weeks. No worries. Good luck to you and may God bless.
Oh, and yes, sweatpants are perfect to wear.
I’ve been warned about the bruising. One more quick question: were you able to sleep in your bed? Or did you use a couch? Thanks very much!
You will be fine sleeping in bed. I had no pain at all from fat grafting unless wearing clothes that fasten at waist. I stayed in sweats for a while.
Thank you! Be well and happy holidays!
I'm considering having this done also - do they always typically go thru the belly button to get the fat (from the stomach area)? I already have scar tissue there. Is it just a large needle that they suction it thru or is it that they actually make full incisions like what would be done for going in the belly button for a laparascopy?
