Any suggestions for therapies for proximal hamstring tendon tears?
I have 2 complete & 1 partial right proximal hamstring tendon tears and a right minimus gluteal muscle tear. 2 surgeons have advised surgery if I want to stay active. (68y/o, overweight, in teens was a gymnast & had non-surgically treated injuries in same leg).
I'm currently doing PT again, working on strengthening gluts and eating healthy to lose weight. One surgeon recommened PRP and the other said not to bother.
Has anyone had success with PRP for this problem?
Any other suggestions for therapies prior to probable surgery?

I have bilateral partial hamstring tears and bilateral gluteal tendinopathy (55 year old female). My understanding is if you have full tears, surgery is definitely needed and debridement to help them heal. Prior to surgery, physical therapy, steroid injections for pain/inflammation, good diet/drinking water/good supplements, and possibly ice/heat/rest can help some. Good luck getting the help you need to stay active.

I had a partial tear and it was a pain in the butt- getting worse. I am a cyclist and I really mean it was a pain in the butt.
You want to stay active- but you say you are back in PT again. If you have continued the program the first time, a second round might suggest that you will need to consider the surgical option as a superior choice. Your injuries are severe and old enough to warrant consideration of surgery. PRP (high quality) would be an adjunct. I had my hamstring repaired at Mayo, Florida. I also had PRP for my knees and that seemed to help.
If surgery is being considered I would ask for all the steps before and after. You might need to be totally non-weight bearing as the damage being repaired is more extensive. Six weeks is the usual time frame. Stick with the progressive PT. There's a reason. Gat as many questions answered and you should be happy with the outcome.
