Any suggestions for recent diagnosis of severe bilateral patellofemora

Posted by swaimm1 @swaimm1, 5 days ago

Had knees exrayed today. Results are “ severe bilateral patellofemoral osteoarthritis”. I was suspicious of Repatha and has stopped taking it two months ago. Any suggestions or insights about my new diagnosis? No experience with this. Initial thought from my GP is significant weight loss will have significant reduction in pain. Easier said than done !!!!

Hi! So sorry to hear about your new diagnosis. My understanding of repatha is the it uncommonly can cause joint pain but not osteoarthritis which is a specific type of joint pain due to breakdown of cartilage around a specific joint.

I don’t know a lot about repatha as far as efficacy in treating high cholesterol, can only assume it’s a “big gun” because it’s an injectable medicine which in your case insurance is paying for. So I speculate that your cholesterol and cardiovascular risk factors are quite high.

I would get in touch with your prescribing physician asap and let them know you stopped it so they can substitute another medication for. Heart disease and stroke risk are nothing to play around with

I’m sorry I did not include this in my post. I’ve had tremendous results with twisty. In fact too good. Total cholesterol dropped to 68 and my ldl dropped to 2! After my recent findings of arthritis I dint think Repatha was the source of my joint pain. Starting back under guidance from my GP at half the dose (once per month vs every 14 days). Thank you.

I’m happy to hear that you and your physician have a plan. Some docs are happy with ldl as low as 2 in patients with high cardiac risk
