Any special treatment for perineural invasion?

Posted by happyending01 @happyending01, Aug 10, 2023

Hello,

I was diagnosed with stage 3b colon cancer last month. I am ready to start my a 6-month Folfox chemo very soon. My path report indicates I am positive for perineurial invasion which is a very poor factor for 5- year survival. My oncologist said it’s presence won’t change my treatment plan. He said there is no specific way to treat the perineurial invasion. I feel like I am waiting for the tumor coming back after the chemo if the invasion is not treated. I was wondering if anybody is also positive for perineurial invasion and what is your treatment for that. Thanks!

@happyending01, a few people in the prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer and breast cancer groups have mentioned perineural invasion, for example here:

Keep in mind that chemotherapy is systemic, meaning it send the drugs through your entire body. So the chemotherapy drugs will treat not only the tumor but also the small nerves around the tumor - the perineural invasion.

When do you start FOLFOX treatment?
