Anyone on Pluvicto (Lu 177), a new drug for prostate cancer?

Posted by dedehans @dedehans, Aug 20, 2022

My close friend has had Pluvecto treatment suggested to him by oncologists. It is relatively new, having been approved by the FDA in March 2022. Have any of you been given this drug? I have read it is radioactive material and patient needs to stay away 6 ft from others for at least 3 days so as not to contaminate them. He has not yet decided whether to take the treatment or not as he is feeling awful enough as is.

Stonewalker, everyone who has cancer wonders and worries about how can the system help when you are in pain and you are very uncomfortable, particularly when you are in late stage cancer. If I were you, I would speak to my doctors and their professional staff, with my family present, about what they can do to help manage this stage of the cancer battle. There are several civilized ways to handle your present situation and your medical staff and family can help you decide which one would be best for you. I have thought out what I would want if and when I got to your stage, however, those decisions are very difficult and I am sure that I would need family and professional help in the decision making process. Good luck to you and your family.

Currently being treated in clinical trial for stage 4 PC thst is still responsive to hormone treatment I’ve had four doses so far with side effects of dry mouth. Lipase has shot up from treatment but plan to finish all six doses. Psa is now undetectable. It’s hard to know if hormone therapy is responsible for remission or pluvicto. Been in treatment about 5-6 months and started with psa of 84 and numerous Mets to bones.

I just had my second round of Pluvicto and it is not working for me. We're not going to continue. My biggest problem is the increase in the size of my prostate has caused problems with peeing and pooping. A lot of problems. I seem to be almost totally blocked off from pooping. Dr will not consider a prostatectomy at this stage since he says they always end up badly. He give me maybe three months. Honestly, three months of this is hell. I'm not sure I'm willing to wait it out.
I wish all my fellow sufferers and their caregivers good health and happiness as well as miracle cures. God bless you all.

All invited to the June 14, prostate cancer support group at noon Central time. You can join in person in Rochester, MN or participate online via Zoom

Dave Hulbert, prostate cancer survivor and wellness coach, is the guest speaker who will present, “My Journey with Advanced Prostate Cancer.” Dave has a compelling reason to keep up on the latest in prostate cancer treatments. He will share much of that with us, including his experience with Pluvicto, the new theranostics agent labeled with Lu-177.

Yes. I’m at md Anderson in houston. Comparison scans showed fewer lesions with less uptake. More scans later this month. All good news so far.

Have you had scans? Mayo did scans after 2, 4, and 6th treatment.

My husband received Pluvicto yesterday, with post treatment scan this morning. Top notch team here at Rochester Mayo. We could not be more impressed.
The rules and restrictions have eased somewhat; as safety monitoring has indicated that it is safe to do so.
Primarily, precautions need to be observed around pregnant women and children under 10.
Precautions continue with bodily fluids, closing toilet lid before flushing twice, etc.
It really isn’t inconvenient. At home, he will just use a different bathroom.
He tolerated it just fine, with no fatigue or other side effects at this point.
He is drinking copious quantities of water, as instructed.
We are very hopeful.
Best of luck to you, and if I can help in any other way, be sure to let me know.

Had my second treatment of Pluvicto on Monday. Typical IV treatment and that was all good until my claustrophobia kicked in while they did the scans three hours after.
So I am about 36 hours after and this one hit me harder than the first. The fatigue is monumental. I'm exhausted, but long ago decided to just sleep through these bouts of extreme tiredness. Which is what I've been doing since the treatment.
Some less genteel details: Urination has not really changed, but I didn't expect any changes in this time frame. There is improvement since the first treatment, though not as much as I hoped. I seem to be dealing with constipation also, which is the opposite of what I noticed the first time around.
Since it is only my wife and I (bless her caregiving heart), we don't have much issue with staying six feet apart. We do have a new kitten and I've been staying away from him, but the treatment notes say I can pick him up and hug him and hold him and squeeze him starting tomorrow at noon.
Round two. I'll keep posting as my treatment continues or I have other symptoms from this round.

I did get my supply from Italy, according to the Dr who administered the Pluvicto. My six treatments are now scheduled out through November at about six week intervals.

I am at seven days after the IV. My first week I was very, very tired. No energy and no interests. Had some stomach issues the first few days, but that leveled out. I can urinate better now than immediately before treatment, so that’s a plus.

FYI, I still have my prostate. My previous Dr did a TURP on me instead of removing the prostate. The TURP is ultimately failing. I guess I heal internally, but I think it was a bad call considering all the issues I have with urination and BM lately. TMI?

I meant to say "now scheduled" in my previous post. Amazing what a single letter can change.
Pluvicto treatment went fine. Technically, no different from the IV Chemo, but I didn't feel as terrible after.
My night last night was no better nor worse than any other recent night, which is good since the IV Chemo for me was horrible. I missed my wife, who slept in a different room per radiation protocol, but I suppose she didn't miss my snoring...
I don't feel badly this morning. Perhaps it is just too soon to see any side effects.
I am hopeful that this will help. The techs told me of a previous guy who needed a catheter to urinate. I'm not at that point, but close enough to empathize. Anyway, just his first Pluvicto treatment allowed him to stop that and go back to normal urination.
On the less good news report, the attending Dr tells me that Pluvicto treatments statistically give us about four months more lifespan than the control group.
Hey, I'll report more later, but hopefully it is as boring as this one.
To all you who suffer from this, and to all your caretakers, my heart goes out to you and may God bless each of you.
