Anxiety about starting Evenity

Posted by pkbs @pkbs, 2 days ago

My recent bone scan showed a vertebral compression fracture so my dr wants me to start Evenity. (I’ve had 2 infusions of Reclast in last 2 years) no problems with the Reclast but very nervous about Evenity.

I had my first injection of Evenity about two weeks ago. The only side effect was that the injection site (under the skin in both upper arms) was slightly sore that day.

I completed Eventiy 12/28/26. I had no side effects with the Evenity (other than mild soreness at the injection site) but this was not bad. I got good results (improvement) on my DEXA so I would recommend trying it.

I finished my Evenity course last May. I experienced no side effects other than a sore arm for a couple days after my injections. Upon completion of my Evenity course, I experienced painful side effects from the prescribed Reclast infusion. Knee pain, etc. I’m not looking forward to my next infusion in June.

I am getting my 11th shot tomorrow. I typically have two sore arms for about 24 hours afterwards. I did gain weight on Evenity (8 lbs so far) and have had joint pain, mostly in my knees but a bit in my hips. These side effects have been tolerable for me when weighed against the need to build new bone in my spine. I had a fracture at T8 just over two years ago.

@sahill4 I assume you needed an echocardiogram before starting Evenity since The drug can cause heart issues.

I’m in my fifth month of Evenity and very happy. No side effects. Sometimes itching and soreness at injection site for a day or two. Not due for dexa scan for another year, so don’t know how well it’s working. Medicare and insurance cover total cost, which was a concern to begin with. All I’ve paid is yearly deductible. Hope this encourages you to take it.

I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with IBS-Mixed and Osteoporosis. I had been prescribed Fosamax for 1 yr, then Reclast IV for 1 yr. Afterwardsmy Endo placed me on a drug holiday for 1 year and I had a spontaneous hip fracture and then a Total Hip Replacement. At my last Dxa scan my L2-4 T score decreased significantly. My
Endo wanted me to start Evenity. I declined. I have been doing the following; attending a Clinical Bone Health strength training class 3 x per week, started BHRT, increased protein in my diet, get good sleep, and socialize. My annual Dxa is in November. My question : for those of you taking Evenity, how much T score improvement did you gain over the time taken? Did anyone have a Heart attack or Stroke? Please comment.
