Amylase & lipase

Posted by lorilai @lotilai, 3 days ago

I'm trying to figure out why my amylase & lipase are elevated for 6 months, maybe more. Once in awhile I'll get a pain under my rt rib cage & had all the GI work up & urology work up, with ultrasounds/CT scans. The levels will not come down? Please help, I've been to numerous appointments & it's a mystery, but I only have till the end of December, because my insurance will run out

Have you had a CT scan? Best way to see what's going on inside. Good luck!

Have you had an MRCP scan that checks the pancreas and/or an endoscopic ultrasound that also checks the pancreas as well as its surrounding organs?

I’m just a pancreatic cancer patient. When you say elevated levels are we talking 2x or 3x the normal level of these enzymes? 1 month following my pancreatic surgery I got pancreatitis with 3x the normal level of lipase. It was a pain that was so excruciating. I was admitted to the hospital and given treatment and I’m sorry that I have no recollection of what they treated me with as my life for those couple of months after my surgery is kind of a blur. But I clearly remember the sudden onset of pain and excruciating pain that prompted me to call the paramedics. That was one of my shorter hospital starts and the problem was quickly fixed and I don’t know what caused it but the pain was continuous and unmistakable. I read on the internet that there are medical conditions that can cause low levels of those enzymes that aren’t necessarily pancreatic in origin for example maybe the food you’re eating or Crohn’s disease, etc. Are you working with a GI dr? Are you working with a dr associated with a GI or pancreatic center of excellence? I’m sorry this is the only advice I can offer, but please continue posting as you seek out advice from other professionals.
