After TKR, I have pain in my quad after any kind of walking.

What could be causing my pain? I had TKR almost 3 years ago. I can move and walk, but when I stop and sit down and then get up again my quad hurts and I can’t move for a period of time. My knee always feels tight to me, but I have good range of motion. When going downstairs I feel a tightness and a little pain at full bend. So far, doctors haven’t diagnosed my problem. X-rays, CT scan and bone scan all appear to be normal. I’m getting another CT scan soon (for another doctor to re-evaluate my issue).

There are at least 4 different muscles and tendons in the quadriceps. Has any doctor been able to isolate which one is causing the pain?

No, not yet. One thought I needed a hip replacement and so we did that. It didn’t help. I had a bone scan a couple of weeks ago. I went to a new orthopedist. He had me get some blood work and I am going to get a CT next week and then see him again.

The answer to your question may be found in your hips or lumbar spine, mine was. Although my two hip replacements which were due to bone on bone, my problems weren’t solved until I went to a different doctor, and we looked at my lumbar spine, which was falling apart. Pain in your quads could be coming from the facet joints. Ablation’s helped me. Just an idea for you..

Thank you! That could be worth looking into. The pain seems to be exercise induced. The more I do, the worse it is. My knee joint (TKR) always feels tight and seems to swell a little occasionally.

it could also be scar tissue. It can tighten and it may need to be stretched out. Try MFR Deep Myofascial Tissue Release therapy. That works great for me! I go twice a month.
