After Evenity

Posted by susanew @susanew, 2 days ago

I have finished Evenity (all twelve treatments) and did get substantial gains. Still have osteoporosis but at least my dexa scores showed improvement. Am now on Fosamax to retain gains. Too much controversy with Reclast for me, age 75, to try.

But here is what I have noticed since off Evenity.

While on Evenity, I did have joint pains in my thighs and legs. Did not realize it could be a side effect. But now no longer taking Evenity, no more joint pain. Amazing and no more Ibuprofen.

I also noticed my hair was getting sparse, figuring it was age related. But now after off Evenity, my hair has filled in the sparse areas and it is getting back to being thick again!

Stomach fat has gotten much better now. Have no real weight to lose but love that my belly is less rounded!

So far, no complaints with Fosamax.

If you notice joint pain or hair loss, or more rounded belly, it probably is the medication. But the end result of improvement is well worth the discomfort.

Thanks for this update. I have 3 months done, 9 to go. I have headache and joint pain. Glad to hear the joint pain resolves. That has been hard as it is waking me during the night! And sleeping is a problem anyway!
This past week I had severe bruising from the shots in belly area. Not painful, but tender.
I have a bone scan in 6 weeks to check progress. Also 75 years old.

I recommend Ibuprofen for joint pain. Tylenol just does not seem to work for me. I take the bare minimum and it brings such great relief.

For the joint pain, you may want to try Ibuprofen which worked wonders for me. I took the regular size, one pill every other day but you can take more or take daily. I have IBS so I try to not take too many NSAIDs. The Ibuprofen will also help relieve headaches. Unfortunately, Tylenol did not work for me. Hoping you feel better.

I will be finishing Evenity this month. My Endocrinologist recommended Prolia for 3-4 doses and then switch back to Evenity as I still have osteoporosis based on recent DEXA and need to build more bones. Anybody used this sequence? This is a new concept for me. If anybody can share similar experience that would be very helpful!

My Dr said we can also do Reclast-Evenity sequence but Prolia is stronger in maintaining/building bones.

Thanks!

The endo told me that on day of Evenity injection, and for two days after, to take 1000 mg of Tylenol and 1000 mg of calcium. I already take 500 mg daily of calcium so just took another 500 mg. Not sure if that will help the joint pain or not, it’s just what he said to do and I do that. Good luck!

I think the ibuprofen works better than the Tylenol. I also try not to take it every day, but have the past 3.
Tylenol pm helps at night. Trying for as needed, not every day. Hard to judge.

Thanks for the info! I’ll try it for my August date. I’m not on additional calcium, but willing to take it day of.

Hello,
Yes this is the sequence that I am doing. I have had 2 Prolia injections so far after Evenity. I need to build more bone density and this is why my endocrinologist wanted to do this before reclast which only locks in the gains. My DEXA score at the start of Evenity was -4.6 and after was -3.3. I have a DEXA in August. Hopefully this will be even lower.

I am 56...found out I had osteoporosis in my spine at 54 during 18 months of chemo for breast cancer. I have had 4 broken ribs, hip stress fracture, and iliac chronic fracture. My first line of treatment was 1 reclast but then I had stress fracture in my femur(no pain). I now had 7 Evenity. My next dexa is next month, praying for improvement. I had my 2 hips replaced during chemo, also(osteoarthritis). I have pretty constant pain down my left leg from mid thigh to front ankle when I walk or lift anything. I am now getting injections at U of Penn for osteoarthritis in my SI joint. The first one gave 2 weeks relief but my rhumetogist is letting me try one more to see if it works any longer.
