After catheter removal

Posted by davidbrandi01 @davidbrandi01, Jan 7 12:02pm

Catheter removed yesterday. Now it begins. It was painless and quick. What is now evident is how much fluid passes thru your bladder. I am wearing depends. In 24 hrs I have used 4 - two fully soaked and two medium soaked. Starting kegels today following Anita Gaglani, RPT program. The diet is tough, the exercises are easy but 8 times a day. 10 weeks to continence. 😎

I really learned a lot about my cancer and how to deal with it reading the book “ life after prostatectomy “ by Anita Gaglioni. You should get it and follow the plan to recover continence. I am 2 weeks after surgery. Frustration and doubt and embarrassment are part of the recovery. It’s a slow recovery and patience is a virtue”

Monday will be 9 weeks since RP and incontinence is an ongoing issue, changing 5-6 times a day. I did not do enough kegels before so my path may take a while longer. I've heard great variations in how long it lasts. so I'm just moving forward. One more month until my first post-surgery bloodwork.

Please keep updating . I am only 11days after RP. Wearing depends. I find that sleeping , laying flat decreases the leakage. This morning for the first time I had the urge to pee and was able to get to the toilet and pee like normal .my diaper was minimally moist. I did a few kegles 2weeks before RP and now doing 4 sets daily .

I was able to squeeze in one professional PT visit for pelvic floor Kegel instruction preop, and continued with 3 or 4 sessions after catheter removal.
Very helpful. Best wishes.

Let me share my experience. RP on 9/18/24. Started kegels a few weeks before surgery and had 4 biofeedback kegel sessions after surgery. Was very frustrated after one month - expecting too much too soon. I am 68 year old, active and healthy. Leakage was ongoing. Slowly but surely improvement came. -- 6 weeks after surgery I bought Vanita Gaglani book - Life after prostate cancer.
Followed her 10 week program - followed protocol including diet restrictions, limiting coffee, sweet and other bladder irritants. Just finished 10 week program and doing pretty good. limited leakage when very active - most of day dry. Stay positive and good luck

Start your Kegels and keep doing them on your own after PT. I was able to get full control of my bladder within two months after RP. You will want to continue to do these as the muscles need to be toned probably for the rest of your life.

Couldn’t agree more. I did Kegels religiously before and after my RP and had ZERO incontinence issues. Best wishes!
