Advice needed for CMC thumb implant failure

Posted by shontell @shontell, 1 day ago

I had a Biopro thumb implant surgery 12/4/24 which has caused constant debilitating pain. Was told it’s a “simple” procedure for an annoying ache. Original doctor was insulted that I questioned the results of this surgery & walked out the room.

Been in PT since December, tried nerve & pain medicine.
Got 2 options who said I need to get it removed.
I’m searching for a Dr that has experience in removing the implant.

I am so overwhelmed with pain and limited use of my hand. Hoping I can get some suggestions for y’all. Willing to travel!

@shontell
I am so sorry!

I had arthroplasty surgery on my thumb in 2013.
My trapezium bone was removed and replaced with my own tendon material.
I had a few problems, but it’s not painful anymore.

Assuming you had a Hand Surgeon perform the surgery, I suggest that you might want to consider a Hand Surgeon in another town/city. Maybe one associated with a teaching hospital.

It’s possible that your therapist may know of a good doctor?Because they work with the patients everyday, they sometimes can guide you.

Thanks! I went to top hand surgeon in my city. I’m looking in different states. I’m so scared to pick the wrong Dr.
