Advance directive for M.A.I.D

Posted by mackaymouse @mackaymouse, Nov 4, 2024

I live in Canada and the province of Quebec just passed a law allowing advance directives for Medical Assistance in Dying ( MAID).
Unfortunately the rest of Canada can only apply for MAID if we are fully cognitive , not depressed and the Doctors say that there is nothing more that they can do to ease our pain.
I have prayed for this law to be amended so that I can get an advance directive. My pain gets worse every year. I was a funeral director for 25 years and have experienced the pain in watching a loved one suffer.
We are kinder to our animals than we are to humans.

Agree ... we can make a Will stating who we would like to inherit our Estate in the future when we die; we can sign a Do Not Resuscitate Order in case we are unable to speak for ourselves in the future, why can't we request MAiD in future and list the medical conditions we do not want to be kept alive with? *Just wanted to add that I have my own story about my quest to be approved for Track 2 MAiD - vastly different from Track 1. It has been a strange "journey" but 3 months ago was advised my Application has been approved and I am "on the list" at our local Hospital. I may never receive/choose MAiD but it was quite a relief to know that should my health deteriorate or get a new medical problem on top of what i have, that I will not be placed somewhere and "exist" for many year as did one of my parents in UK where it is not yet allowed. It has been quite an emotional journey and for those who think this is "easy" - it is not. Regardless even someone who is 100 per cent fit, I also feel they should be allowed to decide their future - our bodies our decision! It's a CHOICE

My mother suffered with Parkinson's disease; early onset and it was terrible. Because of that, I've been adamant about being able to choose to exit on your own terms. Being forced to live with something that is only going to get worse, that makes daily life intolerable, is inhuman!
