ADT and raised blood pressure anyone?

Posted by zooblio6 @zooblio6, Feb 26 10:38am

I am routinely on medication ( daily Bisoprolol ( beta -blocker ) for mild hypertension, but two months in from my first ADT jab ( Decapeptyl ) it is in the region of 165/175. My GP has prescribed Lercandipine to run alongside the Bisoprolol but it seems to have no effect. Anyone here had a similar experience? Thanks.

My pleasure Pressure became high when I added abiraterone to my ADT. Not even close to as high as yours is. Even though it’s not as high, I was put on three different blood pressure medicines a beta blocker (metoprolol), Diltiazem and Losartan. After stopping taking abiraterone I still stayed on the blood pressure medication and now my blood pressure is closer to 105/60.

You may need to be in contact with the cardiologist to handle this problem. It is recommended that prostate cancer patients work with a cardiologist once they start the drugs.

Sorry about the typo in my message.

“ My pleasure Pressure became high ”

Should’ve read

My blood pressure became high

I use voice recognition and it is not always accurate. I always reread what it wrote, but this was missed, obviously! I hate when that happens.

@zooblio6, does your oncologist coordinate care with your cardiologist?

Some centers have a specialty called cadio-oncology.

Mayo Clinic offers expertise in addressing heart problems (called cardio-oncology), potential or current issues. The Cardio-Oncology Clinic (https://www.mayoclinic.org/departments-centers/cardio-oncology-clinic/overview/ovc-20442193) evaluates people prior to cancer treatment and patients who have experienced side effects due their treatment.

How is your blood pressure being managed? Any changes to treatment or heart meds necessary?
