ADT and Open Heart surgery

My husband has been advised to have open heart surgery, for valve replacement and aortic root aneurysm graft. It is recommended to be done within the next three months.

Though he has a growing aneurysm the surgeons were mostly concerned about the severe aortic valve regurgitation. The longer the valve goes untreated the more likely is heart will enlarge and possibly fail.

We obtained two surgical opinions . The first surgeon didn't seem to have any concerns about him staying on Orgovyx. The 2nd indicated that he thought being on Orgovyx created more risk during surgery.

He is finishing month 17 of 24 months of Orgovyx. He did a year of Abiraterone which he stopped in Dec 2024, due to cardio toxicity.

He was Gleason 9, PSA 46 at the beginning of treatment.

Has anyone here had open heart surgery while still being treated with ADT? Was anyone told to go off of it before surgery?

We of course will follow up with his MO, and possibly a second opinion MO consult too.

Thanks

My husband was on ADT for 1 1/2 years before his open heart surgery following a heart attack last fall. They immediately took him off Zytiga, but there seemed to be no problem with continuing his Eligard injections. It's been 1 year since surgery and he's doing fine...8 more months of Eligard. (Gleason 8, so high risk). Good luck
