Acupuncture for trigeminal neuralgia pain

Has anyone tried acupuncture for trigeminal neuralgia pain? Were you able to get any relief? Any suggestions on finding an acupuncturist who knows about TN would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, acupuncture works great! Trigeminal neuralgia is kind of like a migraine, but on your face. It is one of the most horrible pains I’ve ever experienced. I learned something, however, and got rid of it permanently: it was due to hairline fractures in my teeth. For a couple years, my fancy dentist tapped my teeth, adjusted my bite, and everything else to help locate the pain, eventually, the pain in what seem like my teeth, and in my gums turned into trigeminal neuralgia. It took me down straight down with only opioids being able to temporarily relieve the worst of the pain. Then one day my tooth broke. My wisdom tooth broke on top. When my tooth broke. There was zero pain and the extraction took five minutes. Strangely about four weeks later the bottom wisdom tooth fractured I had that one extracted. There was a choice to fill it, but the trigeminal neuralgia was the worst pain I’ve ever experienced so I’m 68. I don’t need those two wisdom teeth. Hairline fractures in your teeth are not picked up by x-rays. That’s what I learned so all the BS at the doctors with neurologist and specialist was all a waste of time. It was in my fractured teeth and couldn’t be detected. So I suggest finding an awesome dentist and specialist that may be able to help track down a problem in your teeth that is causing the neuralgia. Good luck there is hope for this horrible horrible condition!

My personal journey includes MRIs, with and without contrast and shows the TN bi-lateral, in the base of my brain. I have suffered through some of the worst pains and this by far, is the worst ever. Mine is chronic with no relief. Opioids don’t typically touch this type of pain. My dentist won’t touch me until it’s in remission, not even for a cleaning, nor would I let him. This pain is debilitating in every way. My hearing, vision, ear pain, jaws, it’s truly unbearable and feels hopeless. The surgeries are being offered due to the extreme chronic pain and very little to no relief…but I’ve already had cancer and refuse to put Teflon in my brain or allow gamma radiation. So I am currently trying acupuncture. I had my first session this week. (1-2 times per week going forward). My first session brought slight relief for about 24 hours, I had slurred speech and was dizzy as well. It is a side effect of slowing your system down to relax. TN is back with a vengeance for me. The pain is unbelievable, but the non-stop pain, the fact that no medication or combo of meds or natural supplements seems to help, is horrible. I have to keep a super fluffy soft blanket near my face to block all airflow and temperature differentials away from my right side. At all times.
I also use Red Light/Infrared and Cold Wave light therapies daily. For slight relief, I use low dose Nicotine lozenges (non-tobacco, Night shade plant based) directly on the raw nerve pain, baby chewable Acetaminophen and Arnica lozenges. These help some and my Doctor has not ever heard of these treatments, I guess I made them up. Grasping at anything natural I can find. Drinking warm herbal teas. Staying away from anything Sugar and inflammatory and COLD.
I am under the care of one of the largest Neurologists in the country. And somehow I’m giving them ideas. :(( I 100% recommend Natural/ Homeopathic/ Ancient Medicines. They have healthier side effects. Good luck in your journey, hope this helps.

I'm sorry you are struggling with pain. Lately, I've been doing Reiki - might have been a coincidence, but after my 3rd Reiki session, I went into remission. I've also been taking alpha lipoic acid supplements and vitamin B12 regularly. I hope you get some relief soon!
