I was just wondering if anyone has tried acupuncture for neuropathy. The balls of my feet and toes on both feet are affected. It’s no longer covered on my insurance plan so I have to pay out of pocket for the treatments. I was told I would need about 9 or 10. It would cost me about $1000. I’d like to hear if anyone has had success with this type of treatment. Thanks, Nancy Banks.

Hi Nancy: I have lived with neuropathy for 18 years now and have tried just about everything there is to try. I mention this because, one of the treatments I did try was accupuncture. That, too, provided no relief. despite trying 3 different practitioners. Whether it was the accupuncture that failed or the nature of my neuropathy that defied the treatment is a dilemna I have no answer to. I wish you nothing but the best and keep trying!.
Nancy, I have had CMT since 2000 and have tried acupuncture with no relief for the tingling. Sorry for that news but I believe you would find CBD from marijuana. I also smoke a little each evening and that actually helps lessen the pins and needles for the night so I can more easily go to sleep.
Hi Nancy @banksnc49 — my mother had rheumatoid arthritis and swore by acupunture treatments but I'm a skeptic. I only have numbness with my PN so maybe that might be part of it for me. I have heard it's helped some and not others so that's the dilemma. There are a lot of companies making money selling stuff to people in pain with PN and other illnesses so it's good to do your own research and find out what you can about a treatment first.
Here's are a couple of studies done, one is so-so and the other is positive:
Acupuncture for neuropathic pain in adults
Acupuncture for Chronic Pain in the Vermont Medicaid Population: A Prospective, Pragmatic Intervention Trial
Thanks for your wisdom. I appreciate it.
Thank you. I have heard this helps. I’m glad you’re getting some relief.
Thank you John. I will definitely check these out. I know PN is difficult to treat.
I've been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy in my feet, and I have balance problems. However, no pain or tingling in my feet. Any thoughts on acupuncture or dry needling (I just heard of it) helping my balance issues??
Hello @arlengrossman, Welcome to Connect. I've read that some members here on Connect have had good results from acupuncture and dry needling as far as pain goes but I haven't seen or read anything about either helping balance problems or numbness. There is another discussion on the topic here:
— Anyone tried Dry Needling or Acupuncture for Pain or Neuropathy?:
Do you mind sharing how long you've had neuropathy and what symptoms you have?
Acupuncture did not help me. Like you I have no pain just numbness and balance problems.
I'll have to just see if it helps me. Thanks for letting me know your experience.
