A1C Elevation from External Radiation

Has anyone who has done hypofractionated radiation had their A1C levels elevate? Sure wish oncologist had warned me that this radiation would affect my RBC & hemoglobin levels and glucose levels. Seems that radiation throws the whole body into a tailspin- at least for me. On the positive side my PSA has already gone down from 5 to 1.07 in just 2 months after radiation.

Radiation therapy for prostate cancer can cause temporary rises in blood sugar levels. This is because the body releases extra sugar to help cope with the stress of treatment, potentially leading to hyperglycemia (high blood sugar).

Yes my A1C has risen at least a full point from the combination of IMRT and Orgovyx ADT. I am dreading my upcoming endocrinologist appointment as my A1C is now at 8.0

Have you been real careful about what you eat, Making sure to avoid carbohydrates and sweets?

At the worst, my A1c was 5.8, And after IMRT, it didn’t go up. I even been more strict about my diet, getting more vegetarian dishes, and my A1C is around 5.4.

I’ve been on ADT for eight years and my A1c is stable.
